Dancing on Ice opener skates off with 8.65 million viewers

An average audience of 8.65 million people (32.5 per cent share) tuned in from 6:30pm last night to see the first episode of the new series of ITV1's celebrity talent show, Dancing on Ice.  A further 290,000 television skate fans watched Christine Bleakley host her first show and new panellists Louie Spence and Katarina Witt judge the frosty celebrities an hour later on ITV1+1. 

6.51 million viewers (23.9 per cent share) returned to ITV1 at 9:30pm to see former Blue Peter presenter Andy Akinwolere ejected from the show in the first skate-off.  Another 204,000 (1.3 per cent share) enjoyed the below zero axing on ITV1+1.   

ITV1 rounded off an impressive evening for ratings with 7.18m (25.2 per cent share) watching the return of Wild at Heart from 8:30pm.

Over on BBC1, the second episode of Sherlock drew an impressive 8.16m (29 per cent share), slightly down on last week's series opener, which was watched by 8.9 million people in the same slot, a 30 per cent share of all those watching television at the time. 

Elsewhere, Channel 4 saw 1.29m (5 per cent share) check in to watch ob-doc The Hotel from 8pm, with a further 292,000 (1.1 per cent share) tuning in on Channel 4 +1.

Channel 5 continued to enjoy good numbers for its second series of Celebrity Big Brother, as 2.14m (11.5 per cent share) enjoyed the shenanigans inside the famous house from 10pm on Channel 5.  At the same time, E4's launch of the final season of Desperate Housewives attracted 561,000 viewers (3 per cent share).
