ITV has confirmed that Adrian Chiles and Christine Bleakley will leave Daybreak to “focus on peak-time commitments”.
Speculation about the fate of the Daybreak presenters has been rife since reports were published last weekend alleging that they were to be removed from the programme.
Chiles and Bleakley joined ITV last year on exclusive deals rumoured to be worth £5m and £4m apiece after leaving the BBC, where they presented early evening magazine programme The One Show.
They were lined up to front the network’s breakfast show, Daybreak, which replaced GMTV in September 2010 after ratings for the latter show slumped in the face of the BBC’s competing Breakfast programme.
But viewing figures for Daybreak fell rapidly and the duo faced criticism for their unsuitability as breakfast presenters.
ITV said that it had reached agreements with both Chiles and Bleakley that will see them leave Daybreak “later this year”, leaving them to fulfil their contracts with the broadcaster on other “peak-time commitments.”
Chiles will concentrate on fronting ITV’s football coverage, while Bleakley has recently been confirmed as the new host of Dancing on Ice, after Holly Willoughby left the programme to present the BBC’s talent contest, The Voice.
