American actress Annette Charles, best known as Cha Cha DiGregorio in 1978 movie musical Grease, has died aged 63.
Charles had roles in such US TV series as The Bionic Woman and Man from Atlantis but is remembered in particular as the sassy high-school girl who made Olivia Newton-John’s Sandy jealous with her jive routine alongside John Travolta’s Danny.
Charles continued acting into the late 1980s – her final role a guest appearance in Magnum PI – before quitting to become a teacher.
Reports suggest she had recently been diagnosed with lung cancer and died from complications related to the disease.
Charles is the second member of the Grease cast to have passed away in recent months – Jeff Conaway, who played Kenickie in the hit 50s-set musical, died at the end of May.
