After being critically lambasted for The Chronicles of Riddick, Vin Diesel tried to woo a younger audience in this uneven Disney family comedy. Reminiscent of Arnold Schwarzenegger's Kindergarten Cop, the film cheekily sends up Diesel's tough-guy persona, casting him as a Navy SEAL who's assigned to protect the unruly offspring of an assassinated scientist. With the five youngsters ranging in age from infant to troubled teen, his souped-up babysitting duties bring all manner of domestic problems, from the obvious (dirty nappies) to the outrageous (can the 14-year-old really be a neo-Nazi?). Diesel camps it up wildly and is obviously loving every second; unfortunately he's let down by an underdeveloped script and an overall lack of vitality. Director Adam Shankman (Hairspray) squanders almost every comic opportunity, never achieving the boisterous sense of fun that's essential to this type of movie. It's only in the final third that things pick up, resulting in an obvious but enjoyable climax.

A battle-hardened military veteran fails to protect a government scientist from assassins. He is assigned to safeguard the dead boffin's family in case the killers come after the top-secret technology in his home, but finds looking after kids proves far tougher than taking on hitmen. Family comedy, starring Vin Diesel and Lauren Graham.
