The Golden Voyage of Sinbad

The Golden Voyage of Sinbad

Our Score
John Phillip Law - best known as the blind angel Pygar in Barbarella - here takes over the role of the legendary seafarer from Kerwin Mathews, who'd impressed in The 7th Voyage of Sinbad. However, the actors and the plot once again end up playing second fiddle to the magnificent Dynamation sequences meticulously created by the godfather of special effects, Ray Harryhausen. Particularly memorable are the walking figurehead, the hideous centaur and the multi-armed statue that tests Sinbad's swordfighting skills to the maximum.

A swashbuckling sailor stumbles across a golden tablet that forms part of a map revealing the way to a magic fountain, which is fabled to bestow untold riches and eternal youth. But first the brave mariner has to battle storms, monsters and the trickery of an evil wizard before he can reach his goal. Fantasy adventure, with John Phillip Law, Tom Baker, Douglas Wilmer, Martin Shaw and Caroline Munro, with effects by Ray Harryhausen.
