Our Score
In this gripping thriller from Leaving Las Vegas director Mike Figgis, Andy Garcia stars as an Internal Affairs investigator who's determined to prove that fellow police officer Richard Gere is corrupt with fingers in a lot of iffy pies. Gere - who had only been in critical and commercial flops throughout the 1980s, despite the success of An Officer and a Gentleman in 1982 - is especially good as the dishonest and often violent policeman. Indeed, it's probably true to say that this is the movie responsible for reviving both his career and his leading man status. Gere's nastiness as the unscrupulous Peck is something of a revelation after years of pretty boy roles, and the vendetta that develops between him and the perpetually smouldering Garcia enthrals and repels in equal measure.

A crooked cop uses his badge and uniform as a cover for his unsavoury money-making schemes and is prepared to murder anyone who stands in his way. A zealous investigator vows to bring him to justice, but the cunning detective responds by turning his adversary's wife against him. Crime thriller, starring Richard Gere, Andy Garcia, Laurie Metcalf, Nancy Travis and William Baldwin.
