There's a fascinating film to be made about the Europa Plan, which enabled wealthy Jews to buy safe passage from the Third Reich. Sadly, this meticulous but ponderously scripted movie isn't it. Based on a true story, it concerns Hungarian industrialist Joseph Krauzenberg (Martin Landau) and his attempt to negotiate his family's freedom with Heinrich Himmler (Danny Webb). When the Gestapo makes a detailed check of all the household, suspicion falls on Krauzenberg's valet and maid (Kenny Doughty and Caroline Carver). This potentially gripping story is undermined by Webb and Christopher Fulford (as Himmler's SS henchman), whose self-indulgent performances frequently border on caricature, while Landau and Judy Parfitt (as his feisty wife) are also culpable. Veteran producer-turned-director John Daly seems as overawed by the use of key locations such as Auschwitz as he is by the responsibility of doing justice to the tale.

A Jewish businessman in Nazi Germany finds a way to escape the Holocaust, by handing over all his business interests to the state in return for safe passage to Switzerland. His offer attracts the attention of the higher echelons of the Third Reich, and Himmler and Eichmann are sent to arrange the deal. However, neither side is aware the businessman's servants are secretly Jewish resistance fighters. Drama, starring Martin Landau and Danny Webb.
