Big Momma's House

Big Momma's House

Raja Gosnell (2000)

12 Certificate

Our Score
In this mix of Stakeout and Mrs Doubtfire, Martin Lawrence plays an "underblubber" agent, who's out to catch an escaped bank robber (Terrence Howard) by posing as the 300lb southern momma of the villain's ex-girlfriend (Nia Long). The comedy derives both from Lawrence's roly-poly impersonation and from his falling for the girl that he's guarding. The humour is pretty obvious, but Lawrence works hard to give this one-joke film enough crowd-pleasing moments to make it worth your while.

A dedicated FBI agent will stop at nothing to catch a dangerous escaped convict, even if it means donning a fat suit and drag to pose as the obese old woman who lives across the road from the felon's girlfriend. Comedy, with Martin Lawrence, Nia Long, Paul Giamatti, Jascha Washington, Terrence Dashon Howard and Ella Mitchell. Edited for violence, language and sexual content.
