Owen Wilson's laid-back slacker charm isn't enough to carry this flimsy, contrived comedy vehicle from director brothers Anthony and Joe Russo (Welcome to Collinwood). He plays the newly unemployed loser best friend of recently married Matt Dillon, who's allowed to move into the marital home - much to the annoyance of Dillon's wife Kate Hudson. A subplot involving Dillon's conflict with his father-in-law and boss (played by Michael Douglas) seems to belong in a different movie. In movies like Zoolander, Meet the Parents and The Royal Tenenbaums, Wilson has successfully sparked off the comic strengths of co-star Ben Stiller. But without an effective foil he's clearly struggling, and the bland direction makes the whole exercise feel annoyingly undercooked.

Plot Summary

Comedy starring Owen Wilson, Kate Hudson and Matt Dillon. Newlyweds Carl and Molly Peterson are settling down to what they hope will be the perfect life together. Then Carl feels duty bound to give his friend Randy Dupree shelter for a few days and the homeless slacker soon becomes a cuckoo in their love nest.
