If disgraced cop-turned-convict Denzel Washington can eliminate the computer-generated serial killer SID 6.7, he'll be gratefully pardoned in director Brett Leonard's spasmodically entertaining hi-tech fantasy adventure. Problem is, SID 6.7 (played by Russell Crowe) has 183 separate homicidal tendencies - including those of Hitler and Charles Manson - to his personality. Cyberspace wizardry covers the yawning gaps in this soulless thriller and the loose ends mount up faster than the body count, despite expert performances by the two commanding leads. Because SID 6.7 can rejuvenate himself out of any predicament (and these sequences are the film's visual highlights), there's basically no suspense generated, and Leonard's film never recovers from this fatal flaw.
Plot Summary
A computer-generated killer created as part of a police training programme escapes into the real world and wreaks havoc, prompting an ex-cop to take up his gun again in a bid to stop the cyber-slayer. Sci-fi thriller, starring Denzel Washington, Russell Crowe and Kelly Lynch.
