Hi-tech meets High Noon in this deft science-fiction masterpiece from Dutch director Paul Verhoeven, which delivers on both violent action and satirical fronts. Peter Weller gives a great mime performance as the Detroit cop of the near future, resurrected as a cyborg, who goes head-hunting the sadistic gang responsible for his plight as his human memory begins to return. But it's Verhoeven's scabrous dissection of American social issues, trashy sitcom culture and corporate greed that makes this comic-book opus a subversive and thought-provoking edge-of-the-seat treat.

Plot Summary

Satirical science-fiction thriller starring Peter Weller and Nancy Allen. In futuristic Old Detroit a large conglomerate is now responsible for policing the city. When a young cop is murdered by a ruthless gang, his body is transformed into a computerised cyborg programmed to fight crime. But the human side of the "perfect" cop is soon seeking revenge on his killers.
