Our Score
Director Jonathan Mostow twists the knife with a certain taut flair in this gripping thriller, in which Kurt Russell and Kathleen Quinlan play a city couple moving west, whose car breaks down in the middle of nowhere. A trucker (JT Walsh, never to be trusted!) gives Quinlan a lift to the nearest phone, but when she subsequently vanishes he denies ever seeing her. It's enjoyably old-fashioned (and reminiscent of Steven Spielberg's Duel) and Russell gives his most engaging performance since Escape from New York. The explanation for Quinlan's disappearance isn't as clever as you might think, but you'll be too busy chewing your cuticles to care.

A stranded motorist is desperate when his wife disappears without a trace on a road trip - and the reluctance of the locals to help convinces him something sinister is going on. When it turns out that she has been abducted by a crazed trucker and his cronies, he is determined to set her free and make sure the villains pay for their crime. Thriller, starring Kurt Russell, Kathleen Quinlan, JT Walsh, MC Gainey, Jack Noseworthy and Rex Linn.
