Our Score
Recalling the fanciful musical biopics of the studio era, this TV movie seeks out the domestic misery behind the public persona of one of the few folk singers to make an impact on the international pop scene. The son of a hectoring USAF pilot, Henry John Deutchendorf only came into his own after he quit the Chad Mitchell Trio. In the 1970s, as John Denver, he scored a string of hits, the biggest of which, Annie's Song, was written for his wife. Miming to original recordings, Chad Lowe is upstaged by both Gerald McRaney and Kristin Davis in this sincere but unpersuasive tribute.

Summary

Biopic of the country singer, charting his childhood as the son of an overbearing air force officer, his early brush with fame in the Chad Mitchell Trio and his rise to success as a solo artist, despite a string of personal traumas - before his ill-fated flight over Monterey Bay. Starring Chad Lowe, Kristin Davis, Gerald McRaney and Brian Markinson.
