A Touch of Hope

A Touch of Hope

Craig R Baxley (1999)

Our Score
Based on the autobiography by Dean and Rochelle Kraft, this TV movie tries to question accepted attitudes on science and spirituality through the story of Dean Kraft's gift for hands-on healing. Though Kraft initially saved his powers for emergencies, he soon began practising full time, only to be accused of quackery by the medical establishment. The finale, involving a comatose doctor's daughter, borders on the sentimental, but the compassion in Anthony Michael Hall's performance and the scepticism in Scott Davis Jones's script prevent it becoming too mawkish.

A man discovers he has the abilities of a faith healer. Initially reluctant, he agrees to use his gift to help doctors, but only in emergency cases. However, many in the medical community are suspicious of his claims, a conflict that comes to a head when he is asked to bring a doubting doctor's daughter out of a coma. Fact-based drama, starring Anthony Michael Hall, CCH Pounder, Abraham Benrubi and Fay Masterson.
