Review

A star rating of 4 out of 5.

"Home invasion in a car" is director Jeremy Lovering's description of his unsettling debut feature. Iain De Caestecker (from Marvel's Agents of Shield) and Alice Englert (Beautiful Creatures) play a young couple en route to an Irish music festival. The leads take to the director's semi-improvisational style like ducks to water, oozing bewilderment, suspicion and panic as their journey down seemingly interminable country lanes soon sees them trapped in their own unique circle of hell. It's nicely constructed, with a cloying atmosphere of ever-increasing dread as darkness and torrential rain begin to fall. And there is pulse-quickening tension thanks to claustrophobic, in-your-face camerawork and clever editing and sound, which keep the audience as insecure and off-balance as the vehicle's occupants. Add the fantastic location of Bodmin Moor (standing in for the Irish countryside) and you have a nerve-jangler that's definitely not for the faint-hearted.
