The teaming of George Cole and Prunella Scales in this eerie ghost story will keep the grown-ups content as the youngsters hide behind the sofa. There's a hint of The Children of Green Knowe about orphan Jon Newman's arrival at his uncle's rambling country manor. But the action quickly turns into a more traditional supernatural mystery, as the teenager ventures through the doors of the forbidden west wing and stumbles upon clues to the secrets of the dark old house. Newman isn't the best child actor this country has ever produced, but Cole and Scales are worth watching.
