Review

Our Score
Director Tom Tykwer's thriller tries to emulate the globe-trotting panache and frantic action of the stratospherically successful Bourne series, but a ridiculous plot and clodhopping dialogue hobble it from the start. After an undercover colleague is murdered in front of him, Interpol agent Louis Salinger (Clive Owen) joins forces with New York district attorney Eleanor Whitman (Naomi Watts) to bring down a shady banking organisation that's funding war and terror. There's a certain amount of style in evidence as the story hurtles through a wealth of well-shot European cities, while the fashionably bestubbled Owen delivers a gritty performance. But there's little here in the way of mystery or tension, nor any romantic spark between the leads, and a ludicrously overstaged shoot-out at New York's Guggenheim Museum (mind those Mondrians!) obliterates what's left of the film's credibility.

Summary

An Interpol agent and a district attorney discover a major international bank is involved in a vast range of illegal activities, from insider trading to arms deals and bringing down governments. As they battle to expose the truth, they find the corrupt organisation not only has the law on its side, but will kill to keep the secrets safe. Thriller, starring Clive Owen and Naomi Watts.
