Review

A star rating of 3 out of 5.

Those little blue heroes are back. The first film, adapted from the Belgian comic and 1980s cartoon series, was good-natured fun and so, too, is this - if you're under seven and easily amused. Raja Gosnell returns to the director's chair and has CG smurfs interacting with hapless returning human stars Neil Patrick Harris, Jayma Mays and Hank Azaria (plus Brendan Gleeson) against a Parisian backdrop. The French capital is where hiss-boo baddie Gargamel (Azaria) takes Smurfette (voiced by singer Katy Perry) in an evil plot to create two pseudo-Smurfs and harvest their "true blue" magical essence. Smurfs and humans team up for the rescue mission in a plot that's as daft as a "smurfing" brush, but it's a decent diversion for younger kids.
