Fantasy action adventure starring Andrew Garfield, Emma Stone and Jamie Foxx. Peter Parker just wants to hang out with his girlfriend but is burdened with having to save New York from a new electrically-charged enemy. Also lurking in the shadows is his increasingly embittered and volatile old friend Harry Osborn.
Andrew Garfield returns as Peter Parker/Spider-Man in this slightly darker sequel, in which he confronts skeletons in the family closet as well as eerily blue-lit villain Electro (Jamie Foxx). Meanwhile, there's push and pull of a different kind with girlfriend Gwen Stacy (Emma Stone) and childhood pal Harry Osborn (Dane DeHaan), who finally inherits his father's biomedical corporation. DeHaan gives the standout performance, with Harry slowly becoming twisted by fear and loneliness, while Spidey's spectacular encounter with Electro in Times Square is the action highlight. However, Webb struggles to balance the moments of comedy and pathos across the sprawling running time, and Garfield would be replaced by Tom Holland in the superhero's next big-screen outing, Captain America: Civil War (2016).
