Walking Tall

Our Score
Dwayne Johnson, the wrestling star known as The Rock, has been an imposing figure in escapist films such as The Mummy Returns and The Scorpion King, but this ambitious role requires him to flex his acting muscles a little more. He plays Chris Vaughn, a retired US Special Forces soldier, who returns to his home town to discover that it's changed for the worse. Villain Jay Hamilton (Neal McDonough) has closed the lumber mill and opened a casino in which Vaughn's former girlfriend (Ashley Scott) is a dancer. Vaughn is made sheriff and - with the help of best friend Ray Templeton (Johnny Knoxville) and a large hunk of wood - begins to batter wholesome small-town values into the corrupted citizens. As for those acting muscles, well, The Rock makes Arnold Schwarzenegger look like a Method actor, but director Kevin Bray's brash and brutal touch with the action should satisfy the wrestler's fans.

A former member of the US Army Special Forces returns to his home town, only to find the pleasant rural backwater he once loved has become a criminal haven. Determined to restore order, he sets out to take down those responsible for the town's decline. Action adventure remake of the cult 1973 film, starring Dwayne Johnson, Johnny Knoxville, Neal McDonough and Kristen Wilson.
