The horror of Carrie and the humour of Heathers combine to mediocre effect in this tale of a small-town beauty who becomes possessed by a demon. Megan Fox (Transformers) stars as Jennifer, the high-school super bitch whose appetite for nastiness reaches scarier levels when she starts feasting on teenage boys. Only her geeky best friend Needy (Amanda Seyfried) suspects who's behind the grisly murders and races against time to stop the escalating slaughter. Writer Diablo Cody's script delves into the world of adolescent cliques and cruelty, but the teen-speak dialogue is overplayed and less whip-smart than in her Oscar-winning screenplay for Juno. Fox also fails to convince as the flesh-eating femme fatale, and it's left to Seyfried's wide-eyed heroine to carry the plot. The film ultimately ends up merely replicating the genre conventions it sets out to satirise.
