Maurice Elvey was the most prolific director in British cinema history, making over 300 features after his debut in 1913. Unfortunately, this low-budget B-movie, in which a hitch-hiker finds himself in trouble after taking a lift from a woman who's being blackmailed, is not one of his best efforts. We could do with more surprises, but the pace is unrelenting and there are typically solid performances from Mary Germaine, William Sylvester and John Arnatt.
