Review

A star rating of 3 out of 5.

It seems strange now, but there was a time in the 1970s when Disney seemed to have lost its magic touch, and this unwieldy sci-fi epic didn't really succeed in halting the decline of the period. It's actually not too bad, boasting some stunning special effects and an intriguing story about a disturbed scientist (Maximilian Schell) who is about to go boldly where no man has been before - into a black hole in space. The cast is dependable - Anthony Perkins, Ernest Borgnine, Yvette Mimieux - but it's all a bit staid. And the robots just seem to be annoying versions of C-3P0 and R2-D2 from Star Wars.
