Review

A star rating of 2 out of 5.

Called Wings and the Woman on its American release, this is producer/director Herbert Wilcox's account of the life of pioneer female flier Amy Johnson. Anna Neagle plays Johnson with vim and vigour, though her playboy husband is portrayed by Robert Newton as little more than an alcoholic co-pilot. Johnson perished in a plane crash in the Thames Estuary in 1941, and Wilcox's device of having the character return from beyond the grave to deliver a patriotic wartime sermon now seems mawkish.
