Review

A star rating of 3 out of 5.

Despite the involvement of Hollywood major league directors Steven Spielberg, John Landis and Joe Dante, it was Australian George Miller, responsible for cult hit Mad Max and its sequels, who produced the one truly scary section of this feature-length stab at Rod Serling's classic TV series. In Miller's tale, paranoid passenger John Lithgow is the only person on a plane who can see a creature gnawing away at the wings. The rest of the stories are a mixed bag: the Spielberg oldies' story is pure slush; Dante's wickedly cruel mixture of animation and live action eventually goes the same way; while Landis's contribution remains overshadowed by the controversial death of star Vic Morrow (father of Jennifer Jason Leigh) during filming.
