Nothing much has changed when it comes to prehistoric adventures since One Million Years BC featured Raquel Welch running around in a fur bikini in 1966. The same lovelorn cavemen fight the same primitive predators with the same historical inaccuracy. This messy mélange of Apocalypto and TV series Primeval from Day after Tomorrow director Roland Emmerich sees brave young hunter Steven Strait embark on a quest to rescue blue-eyed Camilla Belle when she's taken to a faraway land by mysterious invaders. Constructed around mindless spectacle, chintzy computerised creature effects and sweeping Stargate-style Egyptian vistas, this epic nonsense isn't silly enough to even be entertaining. Bland where it should be imaginatively bold, sluggish when it should soar with thrilling excitement, this leaden leviathan feels like a mammoth stampede in slow motion. At least, the dim-witted dialogue is spoken in perfect English.

In prehistoric times, a young mammoth-hunter bravely combats ferocious creatures as he journeys across the wilderness to rescue his captive lover and her fellow villagers from brutal slave raiders. Roland Emmerich's fantasy adventure, starring Steven Strait, Camilla Belle, Cliff Curtis and Joel Virgel.
