We're No Angels

We're No Angels

Michael Curtiz (1955)

U Certificate

Our Score
Humphrey Bogart, Peter Ustinov and Aldo Ray are the three cons who escape from Devil's Island and intend to rip off French shopkeeper, Leo G Carroll, and his alluring wife, Joan Bennett in this unruly caper. Reunited with the director of Casablanca, Bogart isn't well matched with his co-stars or best suited to this sort of farce. And when the script turns all moralistic and gooey (with Bogart dressing up as Santa Claus and singing carols) you start looking around for Bing Crosby. A misjudgement for all concerned, as was the 1989 remake with Robert De Niro and Sean Penn.

Three convicts escape from the penal colony on notorious Devil's Island and seize a French family's shop - only to find themselves helping the storekeeper outwit his scheming relatives. Comedy, starring Humphrey Bogart, Peter Ustinov, Aldo Ray and Basil Rathbone.
