Director Shawn Levy (Night at the Museum) keeps the action wacky and tight in this outrageous - yet plausible - comedy. Tina Fey (Baby Mama, 30 Rock) and Steve Carell (The 40 Year Old Virgin) are hilarious as the married couple whose little white lie transforms a romantic "date night" into a hysterically hellish evening of endless mayhem. Twistily plotted while also subtly knowing, this has nimble wisecracks with which couples everywhere can readily identify among the action and slapstick. The comic chemistry between Fey and Carell couldn't be better, but Mark Wahlberg very nearly steals the show as the security expert who doesn't seem to own a shirt. Although Date Night packs in a little more action than is strictly necessary, Carell and Fey go some way to making it a new Thin Man - a bright, snappy screwball comedy featuring a very funny married couple.
