Gracie's Choice

Gracie's Choice

Peter Werner (2004)

Our Score
This overly melodramatic true-life TV-movie drama wouldn't be out of place on The Jerry Springer Show. Anne Heche chews the scenery as the unreliable mother whose poor choice in boyfriends and inability to resist temptation leaves her five children at risk. Eventually, after a period of calm at grandma Diane Ladd's is disturbed by more of Heche's substance-fuelled selfishness, 17 year-old Kristen Bell goes to court in a bid to adopt her siblings and give them a shot at normality. It's dismayingly low-grade entertainment.

A caring teenager has looked after her younger brothers and sister all their lives, while their violent, alcoholic mother is unable to cope. When their parent's self-destructive behaviour goes too far, she campaigns to legally adopt her siblings, while also striving to complete her education. Fact-based drama, starring Kristen Bell, Anne Heche, Diane Ladd and Shedrack Anderson.
