This humdrum romantic fantasy is no more than a minor entry in the Mel Gibson canon. The star obviously had to dig deep to find the enthusiasm to carry off his tired role, playing a cryogenic Rip Van Winkle who wakes 53 years after he was frozen and forgotten. Hollywood used to churn out this kind of fluff with practised ease and it's a pity director Steve Miner couldn't have found the same winning formula here. That said, the reunions are touching, Jamie Lee Curtis provides charming support, and at least we're spared the usual smug time-lapse jokes.
Plot Summary
Romantic fantasy starring Mel Gibson and Jamie Lee Curtis. In 1939, with his girlfriend in a coma following a road accident, intrepid pilot Daniel McCormick asks his friend Harry, who has been experimenting in cryogenics, to deep-freeze his body for one year. Over 50 years later, two boys stumble across Harry's freezing machine and unwittingly revive the still-frozen Daniel.
