Not to be confused with the better biographical tale of stuntman Evel Knievel that starred George Hamilton, this amazingly kitsch one-off stars the man himself, a non-actor if ever there was one, in a movie so absurd it simply has to be seen to be believed. Directed by veteran Gordon Douglas and featuring Lauren Hutton, Gene Kelly, Cameron Mitchell and Leslie Nielsen among the cast, this is vanity cinema with a vengeance: the opening sequence involving Knievel and a group of orphans is truly amazing. However, it's always a pleasure to watch the work of true professionals such as Douglas and Kelly, as they manage to save this from becoming a complete laughing stock.
