Review

Our Score
Originally titled Allegheny Uprising and very sensibly retitled for the UK (who can pronounce Allegheny after all?), this super little pre-American War of Independence western benefited from its casting, reteaming the leads from Stagecoach, John Wayne and Claire Trevor. The former Ringo Kid smashes evil Brian Donlevy's illicit liquor trade as well as managing to deal with snarling British officer George Sanders, while also finding the time to romance Trevor. Well, that's what made John Wayne John Wayne. The film is helped immensely by the somewhat expressionistic lighting from master cinematographer Nicholas Musuraca.
