Jason Statham returns as slick mercenary Frank Martin in this frenetic and more polished sequel to the 2002 action drama. Co-written once again by film-maker Luc Besson, it sees the taciturn tough guy relocating from the French Riviera to Miami, where he unexpectedly bonds with the cute six-year-old (Hunter Clary) that he's paid to drive to and from school. However, it's kick-ass business as usual when the boy is kidnapped, allowing Statham to really flaunt his impressive athleticism as his character embarks on a one-man recovery mission. Unleashed director Louis Leterrier orchestrates the ultra-stylised mayhem with panache, swapping realism for a barrage of quick-fire visual thrills - from a cross-building car chase to a martial arts-style fire hose fight. Add deadpan, cheesy dialogue and a trigger-happy villainess (model Kate Nauta) wearing the sauciest footwear, and you've got no-brainer escapism that's simply good fun.
