Review

A star rating of 3 out of 5.

Nick Frost shakes off the accusation that he and Simon Pegg are joined at the hip by playing the romantic lead in this good-natured comedy. Frost carries himself very well as a one-time salsa prodigy who returns to the floor after years in a dead-end job. But when it comes to the actual dancing, he quickly finds himself in over his head. The idea of an overweight Frost trying to pull Latin moves isn't played for laughs (as in Pegg's similarly themed Run Fatboy Run), which is something of a wasted opportunity. Instead, director James Griffiths would have us believe that he might actually win a contest and the heart of his boss (Rashida Jones) along with it. It's a hard premise to buy into, but there's plenty of rib-tickling banter between Frost and his co-stars, who include Ian McShane as his mentor, Chris O'Dowd as a greasy love rival and a scene-stealing Kayvan Novak (Four Lions) as a flamboyant fellow dancer.
