The class-clashing plot may be unoriginal, but this sporting take on a familiar theme is slickly done. Cannily released just weeks before the London Olympics, the film centres on the spiky relationship between two members of an all-girl British sprint relay team in training for the athletics World Championships. Shania (Lenora Crichlow, from TV's Being Human) is sassy and streetwise. Lisa (Lily James) is middle class and snobby, and desperate not to disappoint her pushy dad (Rupert Graves), a former Olympic gold medallist. The girls fighting and feuding threatens to knock the whole team's preparations off-track, but there are no medals for guessing the eventual outcome. Fast Girls is equal parts cheese, corn and cliché, but it's great fun. Even the sports scenes, often a problem in this kind of film, more than pass muster.
