Mark Wahlberg is back in action-man mode in this skilfully shot if slightly uneven thriller. Set in a murky New Orleans, it has a former expert smuggler (Wahlberg) dragged back into the business to save his dimwit brother-in-law from the attentions of mobsters led by the terrifyingly twitchy (and barely recognisable) Giovanni Ribisi. The plan is to bring back palettes of counterfeit currency from Panama, but in typical one-last-job fashion things don't go according to plan: Wahlberg and his team find themselves involved with a gang of violent drug dealers, while his wife (Kate Beckinsale) and children are menaced at home by Ribisi. Wahlberg gives a solid performance as the reluctant criminal, while Icelandic director Baltasar Kormakur (here remaking his own 2008 film Reykjavik-Rotterdam) shows visual flair and handles the action scenes well. But you can't help feeling that, pacing-wise, this could have done with the likes of Tony Scott to give it the kick in the pants it needs.
