The more you love the original Three Stooges, the more you'll love this peppy tribute to the comedy trio from the Farrelly brothers (There's Something about Mary). The film cleverly and lovingly captures the speed and wildness of their 1930s slapstick routines, but updates their antics to the present, allowing them to cause havoc in world of smartphones and reality television. There's not much to the plot: Larry (Sean Hayes), Curly (Will Sasso) and Moe (Chris Diamantopoulos) are given the job of saving the orphanage where they grew up, and they somehow become involved in a murder plot with femme fatale Sofia Vergara. But the story is not the point here; it's the performances, and the three leads are sensational, executing the comically violent set pieces with vigorous aplomb and amazing precision. Although primarily for fans, this will appeal to all those who like their comedies dumb but well developed. With a terrific supporting cast that includes Jane Lynch and Larry David playing nuns (yes, you read that correctly), The Three Stooges is far more enjoyable than it perhaps ought to be.
