The popular romantic team of Nargis and Raj Kapoor were reunited for this enduring Bollywood classic, which the latter also produced and directed. Defying her father's wishes, country girl Nargis's plans to elope with the wealthy Kapoor are thwarted when she's rescued from near-drowning by a fisherman (KN Singh), who claims her as his bride. The story may be packed with such melodramatic devices as class prejudice, spurned love and incredible coincidence, but there's also a level of social comment in Ramanand Sagar's screenplay, which is reinforced by the moody symbolism of Jal Mistry's monochrome photography and Shankar-Jaikishen's mournfully romantic music.

Pran and Gopal, two men travelling through the country, stop off at a small village and have a brief romance with two local girls Reshma and Neela. When they go their separate ways, Pran cannot stop thinking about Reshma, who is soon engaged to someone else, while Gopal instantly forgets Neela, who is driven to the brink of suicide. Romantic musical, directed by and starring Raj Kapoor. With Nargis, Prem Nath and Nimmi.
