This hit-and-miss comedy stars Kevin James (Zookeeper) as a jaded biology teacher and former college wrestling champion. In order to save his school's music department and the job of timid colleague Henry Winkler, James moonlights as a mixed martial arts fighter. A series of bruising and embarrassing encounters in the ring (actually a cage) brings his exploits to the attention of disapproving superiors, but will they help him win the heart of feisty school nurse Salma Hayek? The inspirational life lessons of Dead Poets Society and underdog melodrama of Rocky may seem an odd pairing on paper, but James's ordinary Joe charm and quick wit help carry director Fred Coraci's film through its stuttering storyline and predictable plot twists. And, in the midst of the one-liners and slapstick set-pieces, the script even attempts to shoehorn in a commentary on failing education systems and the therapeutic value of music.
