Director Johannes Roberts's follow-up to his compelling 2010 horror thriller F is a perfectly crafted B-movie monster flick that scores high on fun, scares and gore. As a military plane crashes in central London, spilling its highly classified alien cargo, ex-lovers Noel Clarke (neatly cast against type) and Antonia Campbell-Hughes are acrimoniously dividing up their possessions in a nearby storage facility. Will they, their friends and the staff survive being trapped in the dark maze of corridors with the escaped predator? The film is tightly constructed, consistently gripping and gruesomely witty, right through to its blackly comic climax. Roberts knows exactly which retro sci-fi horrors to reference, and gets where he's going with a driving, crowd-pleasing momentum. He makes the most of a simple premise and single location setting, the cast are uniformly good, and the impressive creature delivers nastily effective splatter chaos.
