This clichéd, Wild West love story benefits from strong casting and attractive scenery, as a young widow (Naomi Watts) risks ostracism from her Amish-type community by taking in a wounded gunslinger (Tim Daly) in 1880s Montana. Romance naturally blossoms, though in a slower more subtle way than most comparable TV movies, which causes Watts a melodramatic crisis of morality and faith, and exacerbates an on-going feud with the cattle baron who murdered her late husband. Based on a Penelope Williamson novel, this very feminine-feeling blend of Angel and the Badman, Shane and Witness is handsomely shot and decently acted, making the predictable genre tropes and some clunky dialogue less noticeable. The relationship between Daly and Watts's son (Thomas Curtis) is particularly sweet, while the central duo themselves paper over frequent plot implausibilities with their smouldering chemistry.

Love story focusing on the relationship which grows between a young widow from a religious group and a cold-blooded gunslinger whom she takes into her home after he is wounded. Romantic Western, starring Naomi Watts, Thomas Curtis, David Carradine and Timothy Daly.
