Surviving Love

Surviving Love

Steven Schachter (2004)

Our Score
Pulitzer Prize-winning playwright Beth Henley scripted this study of marital discord, and the performances of stars Ted Danson and Mary Steenburgen give the slightly wordy melodrama its core credibility. Following a fiasco involving a native American butterfly ceremony at their daughter's wedding, the bickering couple pack the camper van and plan to discuss their proposed divorce during a road trip. However, they get caught in the snow and their plight prompts them to reassess their relationship. The exchanges occasionally have a theatrical feel, but there's guilty pleasure to be had in watching real-life couple Danson and Steenburgen patch things up.

A couple agree their marriage has run its course, but decide to bypass lawyers and thrash out the details of their divorce by themselves. However, they soon get the chance to discuss the details of their separation in great detail when they are trapped by a snowstorm - eventually leading to second thoughts. Romantic comedy, starring Ted Danson, Mary Steenburgen and Erin Karpluk.
