Curly Sue

Curly Sue

John Hughes (1991)

PG Certificate

Our Score
Director John Hughes unexpectedly missed the target with this oversentimental comedy about a young girl and her con artist travelling companion (James Belushi) who attempt to take Chicago lawyer Kelly Lynch for a ride. Belushi is always watchable, but even he can't make up for the cutesy performance of Alisan Porter in the title role. It's one for younger viewers who may enjoy seeing a little girl getting everything she ever wanted, but not one for parents, who may find that concept rather worrying.

A homeless conman takes a nine-year-old street urchin under his wing and together they set about devising a scheme to swindle a rich corporate lawyer, unaware that meeting her will mark the start of an altogether new life. Family comedy, starring James Belushi, Kelly Lynch, Alisan Porter, John Getz and Steve Carell.
