Our Score
In this splendidly titled biopic, notorious western outlaw John Wesley Hardin is sensitively portrayed by Rock Hudson in a star-making role that was to lift him out of the "beefcake" stakes for ever. It's directed by the grizzled veteran who first cast Hudson in a movie, the great Raoul Walsh. Hudson excels here, eliciting sympathy for a character who was clearly no good, and the flashback structure allows for an almost Thomas Hardy-like sense of life controlled by destiny. It's an interesting movie that is far better than the average B-feature from Universal studios.

A gunslinger newly released from prison tells the story of his eventful life to a newspaper reporter in the hope of salvaging his brutal reputation. Fact-based Western, starring Rock Hudson and Julie Adams.
