Review

Our Score
Steven Soderbergh takes the successful caper element of his Ocean's films and removes all the fun to deliver this po-faced, meaningless and stunt-packed thriller. Soderbergh and writer Lem Dobbs (The Limey) apparently intended to evoke early Bond, but come closer to late Bourne, as rogue agent Mallory Kane (played by mixed martial arts champ Gina Carano in her first acting role) trots the globe in a bid to find out which of her various employers has set her up. Was it private security firm point man Ewan McGregor? Maybe smooth exec Michael Douglas? Or perhaps fellow agent Channing Tatum? It doesn't really matter - the mechanical plot is a MacGuffin; an excuse for tactile beat-'em-up set pieces that move through New York, Barcelona, New Mexico and (possibly thanks to co-funding by the Irish Film Board) a grey, wet Dublin. David Holmes's funky score seems misplaced in such a dour film, but the violence is effectively tailored around Carano's undeniable skills - to particularly lurid sadomasochistic effect during a subplot involving the seemingly ubiquitous Michael Fassbender.

Summary

A mercenary is employed by the US government to carry out secret assignments, but on her latest mission, she is set up by one of the operatives who hired her. She fights her way through the world of international espionage in search of revenge, fending off assassins as she tries to find out who betrayed her. Action thriller, starring Gina Carano, Ewan McGregor, Michael Fassbender and Antonio Banderas.
