It's like an A-Z of straight-to-DVD, action-movie clichés, as professional thief Wesley Snipes falls foul of eastern European gangsters after accidentally nabbing a priceless painting during a botched heist in Romania. With most of his crew killed and his girlfriend kidnapped, the former special ops man ends up in a pace-slowing alliance with a feisty Nato military cop (a miscast Tamzin Outhwaite) to mount a rescue mission. Fans of adrenaline-rush excess will enjoy the frenetic first third, where a formulaic but entertaining blend of gunplay, car chases and Snipes's obligatory martial arts helps to mitigate director Simon Fellows's tired and distracting visual tricks. Sadly, the remainder of the film is rather dull and sluggish until the shoot-out climax; hamstringing itself thanks to unnecessarily convoluted plotting, too much chit-chat and an annoying surfeit of flashbacks.

A former commando turns to a life of crime and unwittingly pulls off the heist of a lifetime when he finds himself in possession of a rare painting. When brutal Russian gangsters take one of his partners hostage and demand the artwork by way of a ransom, he joins forces with his bitter rival to mount a daring rescue attempt. Action thriller, with Wesley Snipes, Tamzin Outhwaite and Deobia Oparei.
