Review

Our Score
Directed by Charles Frend, this is one of the weakest comedies produced by Ealing Studios. Chronicling the misadventures of Welsh miners Donald Houston and Meredith Edwards after they win a day out in London, it is nothing more than a string of cheap jokes at the expense of the naive boys from the Valleys lost in the urban jungle. It's hard to summon up any interest in Edwards's encounter with harpist Hugh Griffith, while Houston's involvement with con artist Moira Lister similarly tests the patience. More galling than the patronising humour is the waste of Alec Guinness as their journalist guide.
