Review

Our Score
Frank Pesce Jr is a remarkable character. Cursed with a lucky streak that constantly seems to work against him, the garrulous New Yorker crops up in a cameo and also had a hand in the writing of this breezy comedy based on his win on the state lottery that ended up being more trouble than it was worth. Speaking Brooklynese like a native, Australian-born Anthony LaPaglia gives a spirited performance as Pesce, while Danny Aiello makes a splendid sparring partner as his opinionated father. But it's Lainie Kazan as Pesce's endearingly dotty mother who steals the show. Shame about the silly ending, though.

Summary

Endearing and entertaining fact-based comedy drama, starring Anthony LaPaglia as an Italian-American whose unbelievable run of good luck proves a real irritation to both himself and his increasingly grouchy father (Danny Aiello). With Lainie Kazan and Frank Pesce, the real-life inspiration for the film.
