Not so much of a chase comedy as the first film, this battle of wits between trucker Burt Reynolds and dogged cop Jackie Gleason is more a series of sight gags that pile up like a motorway collision. The tone is set from the beginning when Reynolds emerges from behind a huge heap of beer cans; a shadow of his former self, he takes a reputation-saving job transporting an elephant from Florida to Texas with Gleason again on his tail. Reynolds has always been capable of much more than this genial, show-off role, but it's what he obviously likes best. So, what you see is what you get. Enjoy!

Plot Summary

Comedy sequel starring Burt Reynolds and Jackie Gleason. Hired to take a pregnant elephant to a Republican convention in Texas, the Bandit and his sidekick Cledus kidnap an Italian gynaecologist to care for the beast on the journey. It's a move that once again puts Sheriff Buford T Justice hot on their trail.
