Our Score
Emily Lloyd's startling debut as the sexually defiant seaside teenager prevents writer/director David Leland's 1950s-set comedy drama from being just another rebellious youngster movie. Her vibrant performance as the 16-year-old whose intention is to shock everyone begs the question; why has her career since failed to make any impact? There's also strong support from Tom Bell in a decidedly unsympathetic role as a lecherous family friend. Leland harks back to the early days of "luncheon voucher madam" Cynthia Payne, also the inspiration behind his script for the same year's Personal Services.

Summary

A precocious 16-year-old growing up in a 1950s seaside town seeks attention through provocative behaviour, leading her bewildered family to send her to a psychologist. As she becomes increasingly sexually active, her relationship with an older man has unexpected repercussions. Comedy drama, based on the early life of brothel madam Cynthia Payne, starring Emily Lloyd, Tom Bell and Jesse Birdsall.
